About Us

Point Research is a social business which uses research and evaluation to support and accelerate change.

As a social business we work on projects we deeply believe in and create ways of working with our partners to accelerate positive outcomes. We work alongside not-for-profit organisations, social business, philanthropy, area Health Boards, local and central government and commercial companies to create meaningful change which aims to enhance the well-being of people, places and communities. We have extensive skills and experience amongst the team in both qualitative and quantitative research which enables us to support social change on both a small and large scale.

Tony O'Connor (PhD)
Evaluation and consumer engagement

I specialise in social research, evaluation and consumer engagement in the health, local government and social service sectors. I started working as a researcher as a graduate student in 1998 before moving into a Research Management role at Auckland City Council in 2008. I moved into a Community Engagement Manager role at Auckland DHB in 2010, and took a position as Director of Patient Experience and Participation in 2015. While in management I made a point of staying active as a researcher because social research is what I love to do. My approach is participatory and action orientated, which means I involve decision-makers and service users in designing the research or engagement programme, and enjoying supporting the service provider to integrate research findings into strategy development and service improvement work.

Koleta Savaii MHSc (Hons), BA (Hons)
Social research and evaluation

I am Samoan. I was raised in the fa’aSamoa and Christianity by my grandparents, extended family, church and village. From a young age I was taught the value of service and contributing to the good of the family, church and village. ‘O le ala i le pule o le tautua – The pathway to leadership is through service’. This value of service to the community has guided me throughout life, hence my passion for work that enables me to use my God-given talents to be of service to others, especially my Samoan and Pacific community.

My research interests include Pacific youth romantic relationships, wellbeing, and intimate partner violence; Pacific communities’ resilience to natural disasters; and Samoan youths’ experiences of giving and responsibility to the family and the impacts of these practices on their mental health and wellbeing.

I am currently located in West Auckland, contributing to the Pacific community through Tuilaepa Youth Mentoring Service, a Pacific mentoring organisation working with our most vulnerable young people, helping them to find a sense of belonging in their communities and achieving their fullest potential.
