Case Study 01
Auckland Council - Injury Prevention
Following the amalgamation of the Auckland councils, Point Research, along with Rebecca Davis from the Change and Innovation Agency, supported the Injury Prevention team at Auckland Council to review how it could make the most difference in the Auckland Region. A workshop of injury prevention stakeholders had identified that there were several planning and information gaps that needed to be filled. They felt that it would be useful for the Injury Prevention team at Council to:
1. Build a regional picture of unintentional injuries that could be used to identify what injuries were happening, where and to whom, and
2. A regional plan that would allow those working in injury prevention to work together on these priorities and reduce injuries.
What we did
We worked together with Council, ADHB, IPRU and St John to collect and collate injury data at regional level and for each of the local boards. This information has been shared and can be used by stakeholders, council and community groups to identify priorities and actions both regionally and at local board level.
Outcomes to date:
We have worked with the Injury Prevention Team to:
1. Develop a regional injury picture of unintentional injuries and fatalities
2. Develop an injury profile for each of the 21 local boards in the Auckland Region
3. Collaborate with ADHB to find out the injury priorities of 2,100 Aucklanders
4. Develop stakeholder and community fact sheets for the Auckland Region and each of the local board areas
These are being shared with injury prevention stakeholders, local boards and community groups working to reduce unintentional injuries in the Auckland Region. The data is being used to feed into local and regional planning and decisions.
