Our Community Involvement

We carry our community development research approach into the community that we live and work in. Much of this work is carried out on a pro bono (no charge) basis.
Community Schools Initiative
To determine why young people were not attending their local intermediate school in the Western Bays (
Auckland
) area. We interviewed over 50 people, including community representatives, current students, parents, the Board of Trustees, teachers and young people to determine how the school could become a `community-based’ school with community support. As the school has a strong Pasifika population, interviews with Pasifika families were conducted by our Pasifika interviewer.
As part of our community development approach, Point Research trained a student research team who conducted on-line research in the school which fed into this process.
Community profiling
We have compiled a Guide to Writing a Community Profile, published on our website, to assist community groups, NGOs and agencies to conduct their own research about their local communities by collecting data, interviewing those in the local community as a baseline for community action.
BISC (Business in the Sustainable Community)
In association with local businesses, Point Research has initiated and maintained a sustainable community business network in Pt Chevalier to link the school and business community. All proceeds go to the local school. www.bisc.org.nz
Transition Towns
We are part of Transition Towns in Pt Chevalier in response to the challenges of climate change and peak oil.
